I can honestly say that Ruth Kelly is probably my least favourite of all of the New Labour ministers (and former ministers). She's smug and she never seems well informed on either her own portfolio or the general political landscape.
She was a hopeless mess when she was an education minister and her personal beliefs including ardent Catholicism and membership in Opus Dei would seem to make her current brief as community and local government secretary, especially as it regards homosexuality, difficult.
She has now decided that she should send her son to a fifteen grand a year private school. What, exactly, does she bring to the table that is helpful to the government and, more importantly, to the public?
