I can remember not so long ago when a number of my American friends and colleagues were laughing at the Euro and suggesting that the European Union, with or without the United Kingdom, did not have a powerful (I believe "powerful" to be a euphemism for "unabashedly capitalist") enough economy for its currency to be seriously considered in the world marketplace.
I have only one thing to say to those folks, and you know who you are, €1 = $1.35!
