Michael Hale, a former employee of the British Ministry of Defence, was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday for accepting over £200,000 in bribes from an American firm, Pacific Consolidated Industries, in relation to the awarding of a £4.5 million contract. This is all well and good and two years seems like a rather short sentence for this betrayal of the public trust but I can find no mention that prosecutions are being pursued against either the company or the PCI Vice President who offered the bribes, one Lee Smith, nor does there seem to be an effort to recover the profits obtained by the company.
Why not I ask?
