It seems that the report of the Iraq Study Group (and I still contend that there should have been one of these before taking the decision to invade rather than after) may have opened up a fissure in the special relationship. The British press today highlights the disagreements between the two Bs over the seemingly contentious recommendation contained in the report that Syria and Iran need to be involved in the process of attempting to find some solution to looming or current civil war in Iraq. Blair is for it whilst Bush seems to want to discourage it. He offers this sage wisdom:
"If they want to sit down at the table with the United States, it's easy. Just make some decisions that'll lead to peace, not to conflict."
He should listen to his own advice. Perhaps if he'd made some decisions that might have led to peace rather than conflict we wouldn't be in this bloody mess today.
