British civil courts to boldly stride into 20th century

Judges and barristers in British civil courts have reached a consensus that the wigs should go but criminal courts will still, at least in the short term, retain them. Officials in criminal trials apparently feel that wearing a bit of horsehair on their heads affords them "a degree of anonymity, protecting them from confrontations outside court with criminals, and adds to the dignity of court proceedings". Personally I think it makes them look like silly twats.
