I support a woman's right to control her body and support access to abortion. I also oppose the death penalty. I recognise that, in argument, a case can be made that these positions are inconsistent with each other. This argument hinges on the definition of life and when life actually begins. Somehow, however, almost no so-called "pro-life" proponents are, in my experience, capable of recognising that adopting both anti-abortion and pro-death penalty positions can be argued to be inconsistent especially when the anti-abortion position is predicated on the idea that "all life is sacred". Why is that?
