London mayor, and bête noire of the American embassy in London*, "Red" Ken Livingstone is set to seek a third term in office having received the nod from the London Labour Party. Livingstone was once banned from the ranks of New Labour for running in and winning the election for Mayor of London as an Independent after the party decided Frank Dobson was a safer pair of hands. Also I don't think they liked that he was still essentially a socialist long after the party had moved on the relative safety of middle classdom.
*Note: the dispute with the Yanks is over the central London congestion charge which they insist is a tax and refuse to pay. As of nine months ago the arrears stood at £890,000 (1.79 million USD) as 9 months ago.
