Friends reunited

It is nice to see that George Bush and Pervez Musharraf have kissed and made up. (The kiss is only metaphorical as there is no physical evidence that President "I call him the General" Musharraf received the Full Lieberman). But these days they both need all the friends they can get.

During their joint "press availability" yesterday, in reference to threats to bomb Pakistan attributed to Asst. Defense Secretary Richard Armitage by Musharraf in a TV interview, Dubya said "the first I heard of this was when I read it in the newspaper today". In all probability the discussion between Armitage & Musharraf took place after 9 PM when Bush was safely tucked away in bed between his Snoopy sheets. (At least it's good to see that he's started to read the papers - probably just the Washington Times - but it's a beginning.)

Later on the two of them made it quite clear just how united they are whilst simultaneouly expressing their shared interest in hunting:

PRESIDENT BUSH: We're on the hunt together. It's in the President's interest that al Qaeda be brought to justice. And it's in our interest. And we collaborate and we strategize and we talk a lot about how best to do this.

Q So you do have permission to go inside Pakistan?

PRESIDENT BUSH: All I can tell you is, is that when Osama bin Laden is found, he will be brought to justice. And that's what we've continually discussed.

PRESIDENT MUSHARRAF: May I add?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Yes, please.

PRESIDENT MUSHARRAF: I think, as the President said, we are on the hunt together against these people. Now why are we bothering or how to -- the semantics of the tactics of how to deal with the situation? We will deal with it. We are on the hunt together

Surprisingly President Musharraf did not express his relief that he will not to have to go hunting with Vice President Cheney.

There was no direct mention of Bush's assertion that he would violate Pakistani sovereignty if he so wished.

I'm just glad to see the happy couple back together. Divorce is so messy and un-Christian.
