Sir John Taverner is the pre-eminent British composer of the day and a premiere of a new work of his is normally a cause of some excitement. This is true of his new work, "The Beautiful Names", a choral piece which will have its first performance on Tuesday at Westminster Cathedral in London. It has also riled up quite a few Catholics, the Cathedral being a Roman Catholic church, because it includes the singing of the ninety nine sacred names ascribed by Muslims to Allah. Even worse for Mr. Taverner it seems have got the knickers of one Ms. Maglalang all twisted up as well.
