(Much) room for improvement

According to the US Census Bureau Americans are still driving as much as ever despite fuel costs rising to ridiculously low levels and the obvious harm it does to fellow humans and the planet at large. Not only that but most Americans drive alone. So I will suggest some simple steps that you can take that might ensure that the rest of us have a planet to live on.
  • If a journey is walkable - walk it. Popping down the shops on a Saturday morning to get a paper and a pint of milk? Get you legs out - the exercise won't do you any harm. You might even enjoy it.
  • Work from home! Think of the lie ins you can have.
  • Take public transport; buses, trans, trams whatever. If you live or work where there isn't any public transport you know have an issue on which to pressure you state and local political representatives!
  • Car pool to work if there isn't a better option than driving. The best thing about this is you have a built in excuse not to work late as others are depending on you (or leaving without you as the case may be).
Please. If not for me then for your kids, OK?
