In an attempt to "improve" the rate of convictions in rape trials the government plans to go ahead with changes to the law that have been opposed by senior judges. The crime of rape is one of the worst there is and clearly those guilty need to punished and punished severely but that does not excuse attempts to increase the conviction rate at the risk of unsafe verdicts. This is a case of the government pandering to the "feral beast" that is the red top press.
