We all know, with the possible exception of the Decider(TM), that US Attorney General "Gone-zo" Gonzales is "economical with the truth". Now it seems that this condition is shared by his British counterpart Lord Goldsmith as the Guardian tells us that the Attorney General knew of the £1 billion in under the table payments from BAE Systems to Saudi Prince Bandar, good friend of Dubya, and ordered that this information be kept from international corruption investigators. The basis for his argument was that the government's "complicity" in facilitating the bribes would become public knowledge if a probe was allowed to continue. Meanwhile, in Germany St. Tony is continuing to defend these actions by running about whilst shouting "national security, national security".
The only things actually endangered by the release of this information was the security of the BAE stock prices, St. Tony's grip on power and the position of the Saudi monarchy.
*Note: despite Gone-zo's use of "Attorney Generals" to describe situations in which there is more than one of him "Attorneys General" is the correct plural. By my rules for the use of English as the official language of the United States this scandalous misuse of the language would automatically disqualify Mr. Gonzales from holding any high public office.
