We all know that the French are evil and corrupt, right? I mean why else would the great patriots in the Capitol rename French Fries to Freedom Fries other than to punish these garlic eating Gauls for their reprehensible behaviour?
Now we find out that anti-hero, French President Jacques Chirac stands accused of appointing a crony, one Laurent de Mesle, as the chief public prosecutor for Paris. When M. Chirac leaves office, probably in May, he will no longer have immunity and his choice is seen as an attempt to insulate himself from prosecution for his nefarious act (whatever they might be).
Fortunately this sort of thing could never occur in America, the land of the free. Picking your own attorney for the Supreme Court or proposing retroactive legislation to immunise yourself and your staff from war crimes prosecutions are just sensible, patriotic acts.
