Long suffering Prime Minister-in-waiting (and waiting and waiting) Gordon Brown looks assured of a move from Number 11 Downing Street to Number 10 Downing Street after it became clear that he will be unopposed in the race for the leadership of the Labour Party. John McDonnell, a fine socialist and veteran back bencher, dropped out of the contest after he failed to secure the support of enough Labour MPs.
