Part of Tony Blair's overlong farewell to Britain is going to be trip to visit the Commander Guy in Washington. Perhaps the two of them plan to dress up in uniforms and play with toy soldiers in the basement of the White House.
But seriously; what purpose does this trip serve? Blair has only a few more weeks in charge and cannot hope to be able to affect British policy in anyway that Gordon Brown does not wish. Bush's time is fading albeit not nearly fast enough for most of us.
Are they going to spend their time comparing toothpaste again? In business parlance this is what is known as, I believe, a boondoggle.
