Of omertà and Abu Ghraib

The only military officer to be tried in relation to the terrible crimes and human rights abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq has been let off with a slap of the wrist; a reprimand. Even that minor punishment was not for dereliction of duty, failing to train or supervise his underlings but rather for not keeping quiet about the abuse. Sad. Very sad indeed.

It is possible that at one time America was a nation of laws but it is no more.
