A warning?

Monday's G2 devoted a fairly lengthy piece asking "where is bin Laden?". In it they talk to Michael Scheuer, a former CIA agent, who set up the bin Laden task force (recently disbanded). Towards the tail end of the article it is noted that Qaeda has been criticised in Islamic circles for failing to offer the enemy the chance to convert before previous attacks, as required by the Qu'ran. Scheur considers the tape recently released by American al Qaeda convert Adam Yehiye Gadahn was intended to deliberately meet this requirement.

Scheur says:

"The tape was directed at Muslims to show that [al-Qaida] has gone the extra mile to get us off the hook," he says. "It's a mug's game to guess when, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another attack in the United States before the end of this year"

Could bin Laden be planning another attack in attempt to boost Republican chances in November? Call me cynical but I don't see it as outside the realm of possibilty.
