The sacred cows of Lewisham

Lying deep in the heart of south London Lewisham borough isn't exactly what first comes to mind when you think of good news (or innovative thinking for that matter) so I thought I ought to share this. In an attempt to get an uptake in recycling of waste the borough council painted its bins to looklike black and white cows and they have seen a 60% uplift. Kids seem to love to "fatten up the cows". It probably didn't cost a lot either.

Unfortunately, this isn't true... Lewisham Council is baffled by where the story came from, and the person quoted apparently isn't a Lewisham spokesman as claimed. Cute idea, but completely made up, it seems.

At the risk of arguing with myself... I was wrong. There are some 'Eurobins' near Goldsmiths College in New Cross painted to look like cows. Cute and true!

There are indeed, and you can see what they look like here.

I was the councillor charged with looking after the environment when they were introduced, so its nice to see that they're doing their job.
