A real ale hero

Anyone who has had the opportunity to experience the pure joy that is a pint of Young's Special should be wearing a black armband today.

John Young, who had been chairman of Young's Brewery for the past 40 odd years, has passed away aged 85 years. With him at the helm Young's stayed true to its tradition of cask ale in the 70's when most other brewers were moving away from it. He certainly contributed, at least indirectly, to the success that CAMRA has had in keeping proper, hand pumped beer alive.

For my American friends, sorry, you're going to have to come to Britain for a taste. Real beer doesn't travel.

To John Young - Cheers! (no clinking!)
