Another good year to be a junkie

Afghan opium production is up 59% in 2006 over 2005 says the UN. (The last three years have been the three highest years since 1992).

Meanwhile the US government releases the 2007 (sic) Presidential finding on major drug transit and drug producing countries. What countries does this focus on, you ask.

Venezuela and Burma. Afghanistan has a minor speaking role. Colombia? Just a walk on.

There couldn't be political influences at work here, could there?
