Gluttons at the free market trough

I'm sure if you sat down with the head of American insurance company and, over a few cocktails, discussed macro-economics you would probably find that they are a firm believer in the gospel of the free market and probably carries a portrait of Adam Smith around with them. If you did the same thing with a farmer over barbeque and iced tea you'd probably fine their thinking much the same, possibly without the idol of Smith.

So why then do I keep stumbling on stories like this and this?

I call these folks inversocialists. They believe in using government to redistribute income. They just mean to do it from the poor to the rich.
