No news is better than bad news!

How many civilians are dying in Iraq? Well the US doesn't count them but the UN is supposed to. Now the Iraqi government says that they can't have access to the data. This measure comes a week after the British publication the Lancet released figures suggesting that as many as 650,000 more civilians have died since the US invasion than would have died otherwise. They have been very explicit about their methodology.

The White House reaction has been that study's results are "not credible" but they fail to mention why. Given that the Iraqi government has now shut off the source of the raw data that has led many others to develop lower estimates what else do we have to rely on?
