British press review

This morning's papers are full of speculation about the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq. The Guardian tells us that the Yanks are "uneasy" about plans for a draw down of troop numbers. The Torygraph takes a stronger view and tells us that the British mission has "failed in Basra" and along the same lines, if somewhat harsher, the Daily Express shares their view that the British have been "defeated in Basra".

Meanwhile my favourite newspaper the Daily Mail rather confusedly says that British troops in Basra are "surrounded like cowboys AND Indians". If both the cowboys and the Indians are surrounded who is it exactly that is surrounding them? Chorus girls? Secular humanists? Homosexuals? Leather clad, pink pistol toting lesbian gangs?

They've been surrounded by a sailor, a motorcycle cop and a construction worker.

You can sort of make the rest of it up from there, I think...
