We are into day four of Britain's most recent outbreak of hoof and mouth disease and so far the government's response appears adequate at least; perhaps we did learn something from the last outbreak five or six years ago.
There have been a few interesting bits though with the country's top veterinarian saying that the culled livestock would be incinerated but not burned and there is bound to be a crisis of credibility once the livestock farmers discover that Hillary Benn, the recently appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and ostensibly the government official chiefly responsible for dealing with the outbreak, is a vegetarian!
