A committee of the Israel Knessett has approved a 1.2 million NIS (£140K+) budget for the security detail for "retired" Israeli President Moshe Katsav. Mr. Katsav resigned after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault. His plea bargain arrangement, which has still not been agreed to by the courts, saw him avoid a rape charge and he will not serve any time in jail.
In related news Mr. Katsav and his family have angrily rejected calls for him to voluntarily give up government funding for his office to the tune of 750K NIS annually.
