Now I am not advocating that American troops should remain in Iraq but we do need to be prepared for what will happen when they leave. We probably don't have to look any further than Basra where British forces are pulling out to see, in a microcosm, what is likely to happen elsewhere in the country. We should also remember that it may not matter if US forces stay either.
