I find the story now being put about by Mark Foley's solicitor that he was abused as a child. I am not trying to belittle any horrible experience Mr. Foley may have had when he was younger whether it took the form of sexual, physical or psychological abuse. I just sense politics at work here.
To the religious right they can hint that he wasn't really gay. He was just damaged by childhood abuse (and I am not suggesting that he was not damaged just that it is not the cause of his homosexuality). They can also use this as they plot for his triumphant return as a recovering alcoholic ex-gay!
How come you never get to be over being an alcoholic but you can conquer your gayness?
