This article from the Boston Globe describes presidential hopeful as a "black United States senator from the South Side of Chicago". Well he may be from Chicago, even if he was born in Hawaii, but he is only black by the old Jim Crow standard whereby one drop of black blood makes one black. He is exactly half black and half white. Either the papers and the broadcast media has to start referring to him accurately as mixed race or I am going to have to continue to refer to him as a "white United States senator from the South Side of Chicago"!
