Betting against Hugo

An Australian television news magazine has reported of American complicity in the failed coup attempt to overthrow Hugo Chavez's elected (whether you like it or not) government in 2002. The revelations include CIA documents that show that the US government had knowledge several days in advance of the armed attempt. Hugo Chavez also alleges in the segment that the US continues to fund the groups involved.

Let's imagine a different scenario. Elements friendly to Cuba are plotting the overthrow of the elected (almost) government of George Bush. Cuban intelligence is aware of the plot nearly a week before it is to be attempted and does nothing. I would not need a radio to hear the reactions of the wing nuts all the way from America.

But then the US has a long and dishonourable history of interference in the governments (democratic or otherwise) throughout Latin America. Surely we cannot expect her to change now. It's a tradition like lynching or denying the vote to women.
