I can only ask who they believe the enemy to be who warrants these.

We accuse and attack Iran and North Korea for violations of the Non-proliferation treaty (the later certainly is guilty) but wouldn’t this new generation of weapons violate American obligation under that selfsame same treaty?

I cite Article VI in full (my empahsis):

Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control.

How many billions of dollars of corporate welfare will this represent and who will benefit? You can bet that you will find most of them on the Republican donor rolls.
