More proof is forthcoming that the "War on Terra(TM)" takes precedence over everything else in the minds of Bush&co. A revision to the national space policy has been released with little fanfare as is usual within something they don't want noticed. There is an unilateral tone to the new policy. It states that in order to "ensure that space capabilities are available in time to further U.S. national security, homeland security, and foreign policy objectives (emphasis mine)." The new policy highlights a "freedom to act" and implies the potential for the weaponisation of space perhaps leading to a new arms race. The new policy (PDF)may be found here.
The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 bans "weapons of mass destruction" in space. Is this new policy the first step toward an American shredding of yet another treaty that it finds constraining? (The text of that treaty (PDF) may be found here.
