I have held this view for some time and now my thinking is validated by the results of a survey by Britain's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Most Brits think that it is just too bloody inconvenient to alter their life style in an environmentally friendly fashion. I can only assume that the results of such a survey in the United States would be even more discouraging.
