Everywhere I turn there is a bleak assessment of the situation "on the ground" (as the Decider(TM) likes to put it) in Iraq. Joining the chorus is Larry Diamond a former adviser to the Coalition Provisional Authority and a member of James Baker's "how can we 'cut and run' without being accused of 'cutting and running'" task force. Mr. Diamond, also of the conservative Hoover Institute at Stanford University, believes that there may only be weeks left to avert disaster. In my book any opinion that holds that Iraq is not already a disaster is needlessly optimistic but that's just me. He goes on to say
:"The civil war is already well along. We have no way of knowing if it's too late until we try a radically different course...There's a sense among many people now that things in Iraq are slipping fast and there isn't a lot of time to reverse them."
Consulting his Crackberry, Karl Rove, who notes that this means that they can hold out until after the elections before admitting anything, considers this good news and goes off in search of Redskins's tickets.
