Bad news for trailer parks

I share with you the sad news that Union Products of Massachusetts is due to close. The company is the primary manufacturer of the iconic plastic pink flamingos enhancing the scenery of countless trailer parks and retirement communities throughout America.

Filmmaker and actor John Waters* is reported to have gone into seclusion and Friends and family are concerned for his well being. His attachment to the kitschy lawn ornaments is well documented. Mercifully Divine didn't live to see this tragedy unfold.

On a more serious note actual, real life pink flamingos are under threat in Africa where a mystery illness is killing them in their thousands along the Rift River in Kenya and Tanzania. I am worried that the Bush administration will be confused by these two stories and assign the EPA to shore up the finances of Union Products in order to bolster their green credentials.

*Note: I got a chuckle out of the IMDB biography of Waters which begins as follows.

"Growing up in Baltimore in the 1950s, John Waters was not like other children."

Then he grew up and wasn't like other adults.
